From our Project Manager in Kabul - Marek Soos:
Last Wednesday the selection of beneficiaries - the first step in the project "Reintegration of Returnees and IDPs in Qarabagh" was accomplished by our field staff. Subsequently all 178 selected families were approved by local and district authorities (shura) and confirmed by Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations. To make project coordination and material distribution easier, the 178 beneficiaries in 62 villages were divided into 8 communities.
This Monday we officially started the second part of project - construction of houses - which was launched by distribution of material and tools. First we visited community number 8 with centre in the village Qala-e-Qazi Paian, situated in the closest vicinity to district capital Qarabagh. In the course of last week each of 27 beneficiary families obtained a load of 8 m3 stones for the house foundation. On Monday they received also tools, necessary for construction: pickaxe, shovel and to ribbon bucket for clay. Beneficiaries likewise during the survey, confirmed receiving of tools and stones with the fingerprint. The stones were delivered by truck directly to door of beneficiaries. Some of them had already started with construction and that is why we could find foundation under digging or even dug in some places. Before starting to dig, the dimension and place of foundation are consulted with one of field workers, who is civil engineer. For the next weeks is being planned to launch construction and run distribution in community 7 and subsequently in the other six communities one at a time.
